One of the most traditional neighborhoods in the city of Lisbon, where the first productions of Portuguese Mudéjar art appeared, which preceded the emergence of the Manueline style.
The sadness and melancholy of their songs gave rise to Fado. There, on Ruta do Capelão, Maria Severa Onofriana was born, the first Portuguese fado singer and the greatest expression of fado at the time. Other big names in Fado, such as Fernando Maurício and Mariza, were also born in this typical Lisbon neighborhood.
